45 Degrees?

The snow is melting...
the college students are playing Ultimate Frisbee in the commons...
Christa and I could take a nice walk around the city of Oshkosh...
we can get our car washed and remove all the salt and crud that accumulated on it...
we can actually see the sun...

...I appreciate a nice reprieve from the cold. I will try to enjoy this as much as possible before it inevitably gets cold again.

Filing Updates

When it is -2 degrees outside, it's best you stay indoors. I started work on it this weekend, but over the course of this week and the next I am going through my personal files, updating and throwing out. An emphasis can be placed on the throwing out part. It's time to make room for more files :).

Otherwise, Christa and I have been utilizing our Netflix account and have been watching about a movie per day. It's working out great.

We will also be finishing our Christmas shopping today. Sweet!

Fantasy Football Ends...

...well, at least it ends for me. Despite a furious attempt by DeAngelo Williams, who gained a whole bunch of yards and 2 TDs on Monday night, I lost in the first round of the playoffs 112.5-110. That was rough.

Again, though I feel as though with DeAngelo Williams, Thomas Jones & Tom Brady as my keepers for next year, things are looking pretty good! We'll see.

Other News:

1. So we did get hit with quite a bit of snow. It should be fun digging my car out of the snow bank.
2. The 14-week fall semester ends in three day. Yippee!
   

Two Monday Random Thoughts

There is a big storm coming through Oshkosh (and elsewhere) tonight. The predictions keep getting bigger and bigger. They are not up to 11-14 inches of snow. They started with 3-5. Every time they predict a big storm, it is usually quite underwhelming. I'm guessing 2-3? :)

The Packers lost again yesterday. For the second week in a row they had a lead or tie late in the game and gave it up. I was ready this time...I was not surprised. The Packers play just good enough to stay int he game and then find a way to lose. They have major issues to take care of on defense. Geez!

Snow...Sweet

Last night, Christa informed me that a Winter Storm was going to come through Oshkosh last night and today. I had not seen anything on TV of of yet, but low and behold the warning came on and we were expected to get 4-6 inches of snow. It started last night and left a pretty good layer on the ground when I woke up at 7:15 this morning.

As you have read about before, I have taken to running in the morning when I get up. Not thinking things through at 7:00 AM, I went running to discover the vast majority of Oshkosh citizens or civil servants had not plowed the sidewalks. Even some of the roads had not received any care yet. This made running interesting. Although frustrated at the time, I realized that at 8-9 AM, most plowing had begun. I just needed to wait. But, I am a creature of habit so I ran anyway.

My pedometer said I ran 4.6 miles, but I probably only ran about 3.8. The extra distance come probably from the fact that I took smaller steps to deal with the 4 inches of snow that I was often running through. Some may consider this adventure to be dangerous, or stupid. You're probably right. In addition to that, I think it show determination. I am going to keep up this running stuff. This continues to be the longest that I have made this work.

In non-running related news, the snow looks beautiful, and even at 10:00 AM it continues to snow. It is supposed to snow on and off all day. Christa is right. It's about time we got some snow.

My 3rd floor Community Advisor Darci (who leaves this week) is having a Hawaiian Luau tonight. It's perfect weather for a luau :)!

The Beard

I have spread the word that I have a tradition when it comes to growing a beard in these pending winter months. Over the last few years, I have determined that I will start growing a beard after the first measurable snow fall of the year. I will shave the beard on Good Friday. The only exception this year is the beard will need to be shaved for the engagement pictures which will probably be taken late November/early December.

I have received a few messages from folks that the snow last night fit the criteria. Sorry folks, based on my observations last night and this morning I don't count last night's flurries measurable. However, it look like today and tomorrow we may get some more serious snow, and I don't shave often anyway so it's like I already started ;).
